Tsunami, a memoir
Available now for preorder
My friend Lisa and I went to Thailand in December 2004 to celebrate our divorces being final. I wanted to spend Christmas on a beach in my bikini, and Lisa had been to the Rai Leh peninsula before and suggested we go there. We set off for our journey on December 18. The morning of December 26 was beautiful. There was no tsunami warning system at that time so we had no idea there had been 9.3 earthquake off the coast of Sumatra that created a tsunami that within two hours would reach us.
The tsunami would kill an estimated 230,000 people across fourteen countries, from Indonesia to Sri Lanka to Thailand to the Maldives to India and all the way to East Africa. Everyone who was there and survived has a story of where they were when the tsunami hit. But there are too many stories that will never be told. This is my story of that day and its aftermath.
