I love seeing the editing process here. The seconds draws me in quicker and I love the ending. Your posts are always my alarm clock to go put Sunday dinner on (6pm here), which I'm off to do right now.
Oh this is so much fun, LeeAnn! You're generous to show us the progression from the early-aughts version to the new revision to those words growing and falling in leaf-shape. (I see the leaf! The leaves!)
Honored to be mentioned as having helped to plant this notion. Happy, always, to read what you write.
I love every version of this poem, LeeAnn, and it’s so fun to see its evolution. The shape poem just sweeps me off my feet! I want to leap right into it like a pile of leaves.
I agree that the second poem feels tighter, like it reaches its goal quicker (does that make sense?). But I love the bit about the kids because it is so familiar--those projects they get immersed in so deeply. That could be a completely different poem. Both versions are a pleasure to read out loud. (the third version is really cool looking; I thought it was a shower of fall leaves at first?)
And the first one did get published. And the kids were a part of that time period. I lived in an in-law under their house. The shape poem is supposed to be like a shower of leaves in the shape of a bigger leaf. My brother says it looks like Ash leaf.
Hi LeeAnn, a shape poem is such an intriguing idea. Fearlessly editing a poem from 16 years ago is an interesting undertaking. And thanks for the kind words. Wes

Thanks!
Love seeing the evolution of this poem LeeAnn, so good!
Thanks, Lisa. It was a fun post to write.
Each poem, a different leaf of the same tree, all of them beautiful in their way.
Thank you for sharing the whole process, LeeAnn.
Thank you so much, Fontini.

Really enjoyed seeing how this one evolved x
I love all three versions! As the unofficial "Forester" in the family, I'm going with Ash leaf. Kudos.
I’d say you’re the only forester in the family❤️thanks!
Thank you for sharing some of your process. .
